The Chambal Gharial Sanctuary, long regarded as India’s safest refuge for the critically endangered gharial, is facing an unexpected ecological challenge as crocodiles have begun preying on young gharials. Forest Department officials confirmed that radio transmitters fitted to released gharials have provided the first official evidence of repeated crocodile attacks within the sanctuary.
