AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday accused the Congress party of being responsible for the prolonged incarceration of student activists Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam, alleging that amendments made by the party to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have enabled extended detention without bail. Addressing a public gathering in Dhule, Owaisi said the two accused in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case have spent more than five years in jail without relief, raising serious concerns about civil liberties and due process.
