19 MP Districts Under Flood Watch, Narmada Breaches Danger Mark
Bhopal, July 12
The monsoon has intensified across Madhya Pradesh, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in 19 districts of the state on Saturday. The warning primarily covers the central and eastern regions, where the likelihood of flood-like conditions is significantly high.
Districts on High Alert
According to the IMD, the districts likely to be most impacted include Jabalpur, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Panna, Damoh, Vidisha, Raisen, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Umaria, Shahdol, Singrauli, and Dindori. These areas are expected to experience intense downpours accompanied by strong winds and lightning, potentially disrupting daily life.
Rising Flood Concerns in Narmada Belt
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past few days has already led to flood-like situations in parts of Mandla, Narsinghpur, and Jabalpur districts. The water level of the Narmada River is rising rapidly, and several low-lying areas are now waterlogged. Local authorities have reported water flowing over bridges in some locations, causing traffic disruptions and posing risks to commuters.
Cause of the Heavy Rainfall
Meteorological experts attribute the current weather pattern to a low-pressure system that originated over Gangetic West Bengal. This system has moved westward through Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, bringing significant rainfall to Madhya Pradesh. The impact is expected to last until July 14, with forecasts predicting 7 to 8 inches of rainfall in several regions.
Precautionary Measures Urged
Authorities have urged residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel, particularly near rivers and water-logged zones. Disaster response teams are on standby, and district administrations have been instructed to monitor the situation closely.
The IMD continues to track the system's movement and will issue further advisories as necessary. Meanwhile, residents are advised to follow official updates and take necessary safety precautions during this period of intense monsoon activity
