Lord Jagannath to Observe Anasara: No Darshan for 15 Days

As per tradition, Lord Jagannath will "fall ill" after the ceremonial Snana Purnima and retreat to rest for 15 days in the Anasara period. Devotees await his grand reappearance during the Rath Yatra with great anticipation.

The time of an important religious event related to Lord Jagannath temple, the center of faith and tradition, is near again. Like every year, this time also Lord Shri Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra ji are going to fall ill after Snan Purnima. This tradition is followed not only in Puri but in Jagannath temples across the country. Devotees spend this period wishing for the health of the Lord and doing devotional practice. This special period is called "Anavasar" or "Ansar Kaal", which will start after Snan Purnima on 11 June 2025 and will last for about 15 days

Darshan will be closed for common devotees
During this time Lord Jagannath takes bath from 108 holy water pots, after which he gets fever due to cold. After this he goes to his personal temple for rest and darshan is closed for common devotees. During this treatment period, only Daitapati sevaks can serve the Lord. Lord is given Ayurvedic medicines, special decoction (Dashmool), Panchagavya, and easily digestible food. This entire process is called “Nij Upchar”.

Lord is presented for darshan in “Navayuvan Roop”, which is called “Navayuvan Darshan”. The next day, the festival of waiting for the whole world, Rath Yatra, takes place, which will be held on 27 June 2025 (Friday) this year. The temple administration in Puri is busy with preparations and devotees are being appealed to follow the rules.
