Pitra Paksha 2025 is going to end on Sunday, September 21, which is called Sarvapitri Amavasya or Moksha Amavasya. This day is an auspicious occasion to bid farewell to the ancestors and perform Shradh together for all those ancestors, whose death-date or Shradh date is not remembered, or due to some reason could not perform Shradh in the previous 15–16 days. It is believed that by remembering the ancestors with a true heart on this day, one gets Pitradosha Shanti, happiness-prosperity and virtuous results.
Sarvapitri Amavasya is on 21 September 2025. It is also called Moksha Amavasya, Mahalaya Amavasya or Pitru Moksha Amavasya. On this day, Amavasya Tithi will start from 12:16 pm on 21 September and will last till 1:23 pm on 22 September.
Whose Shradh should be performed by whom (Pitra Moksha Amavasya 2025)
Those who do not remember the death date of their ancestors, or whose Shradh could not be performed earlier due to some reason, all of them can perform Shradh on this last Amavasya (Sarvapitri Shradh). According to the scriptures, performing the shraddha of ancestors who have no descendants or caretaker left, deaf and dumb, childhood, women, twins, Guru, sage, ancestors who died in accident or suddenly, etc. on this day is also acceptable in the scriptures.
