‘Apne 2’ Not Shelved, Script Being Reworked as Tribute to Dharmendra: Producer Deepak Mukut

Bollywood producer Deepak Mukut has clarified that the much-anticipated film Apne 2 will not be shelved, contrary to earlier reports following the demise of veteran actor Dharmendra on November 24. The film’s script is currently being revised to accommodate the absence of the legendary actor.

Mukut revealed that Dharmendra was deeply excited about reprising his role alongside his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and even looked forward to sharing screen space with his grandson Karan Deol. “Dharamji was very excited about this sequel. It was his wish to make Apne 2 with his children. Now we are re-working the script, focusing on Sunny and Bobby’s characters. There will be changes because Dharamji is no longer with us, but we are trying to include his character in some way,” Mukut said.

He further added, “If I cannot make a film with Dharamji, then I can pay my tribute to him through this project. Apne 2 will be made as a tribute dedicated to him.”

The original Apne, released in 2007, starred Dharmendra as Baldev Singh alongside Sunny and Bobby Deol. The film followed Baldev’s boxing journey and his influence on his sons, Angad (Sunny) and Karan (Bobby). In the sequel, Karan Deol is set to play Angad’s son, continuing the story from where the first film ended.

Apne 2 was announced in 2020, with Anil Sharma attached as director. Following Dharmendra’s passing, Sharma had reportedly stated the film would be shelved, saying it could not be made without him. Mukut, however, dismissed this claim, saying, “I don’t know why Anil said that.”

With the script reworked, the project is expected to honor Dharmendra’s legacy while highlighting the next generation of the Deol family, blending the emotional continuity of the original with a respectful tribute to the late actor.

This development reassures fans that Apne 2 remains on track, promising both nostalgia and homage to Bollywood’s beloved veteran.
