War drama Border 2, starring Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan, has recorded a commanding opening at the box office, crossing the ₹250 crore mark worldwide within four days of its release. The film’s strong performance has already eclipsed the entire lifetime collections of recent releases such as Sikandar and Raid 2, signalling one of the biggest openings for a Hindi film in 2026 so far.
Released in theatres on January 23, Border 2 witnessed a significant surge in collections over the extended Republic Day weekend. Trade estimates suggest that January 26 proved particularly lucrative, with the film drawing large audiences across major centres and mass belts alike.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned ₹59 crore at the domestic box office on its fourth day alone, registering a Hindi occupancy rate of 64.27 per cent. This pushed its India net collection to approximately ₹180 crore in four days, translating to a gross domestic figure of around ₹212.5 crore. Overseas markets have added further momentum, with the film reportedly collecting about $4.3 million internationally, taking the worldwide total to nearly ₹251 crore.
Film critic Taran Adarsh, citing distributor data, placed the fourth-day domestic net collection slightly higher at ₹63.59 crore, with the cumulative India net standing at ₹193.48 crore. While figures vary across reporting agencies, there is consensus within the trade that the film’s opening weekend ranks among the strongest in recent years.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 opened to ₹30 crore net on its first day. Its collections remained resilient despite reports of morning shows being cancelled in several locations, with business steadily rising over the following days. Analysts attribute the upward trend to positive word of mouth, the patriotic theme resonating with audiences, and the Republic Day holiday amplifying footfalls.
The film has already surpassed the lifetime box office totals of Salman Khan’s Sikandar and Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2, both considered significant releases in the recent past. Trade experts now expect Border 2 to enter the ₹300 crore club within its first week, possibly as early as Wednesday, if current trends hold.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta, the film is being described as the first major tent-pole Hindi release of 2026. It serves as a sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 blockbuster Border, a film that remains a landmark in Indian war cinema.
With robust advance bookings continuing into its second week, Border 2 appears well placed for a sustained theatrical run, reinforcing the commercial appeal of large-scale patriotic dramas at the box office.
