‘Dhurandhar’ Becomes Highest-Grossing Single-Language Indian Film, Crosses ₹1,240 Crore Worldwide

Aditya Dhar’s spy-action film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, has rewritten Indian box office history by becoming the highest-grossing Indian film ever made in a single language. Released exclusively in Hindi, the film has earned ₹1,240 crore worldwide, including over ₹831 crore nett in India, according to figures shared by Jio Studios.

The milestone was achieved on the film’s 33rd day in theatres, deep into its fifth week. On Tuesday, Dhurandhar added ₹5.70 crore nett domestically, underlining its sustained theatrical momentum well beyond the usual opening window. With this, the film surpassed previous record-holders that reached similar global numbers only after multilingual releases.

Jio Studios confirmed the achievement in a social media post, calling Dhurandhar “India’s biggest Hindi film till date.” Industry trackers note that the film is the first non-multilingual Indian release to cross the ₹1,000 crore mark worldwide, overtaking the global lifetime collections of films such as Jawan and KGF: Chapter 2, both of which benefited from pan-India language releases.

Domestically, the film’s performance has remained robust across weeks. After opening with ₹218 crore in its first week, Dhurandhar collected ₹261.5 crore in week two and ₹189.3 crore in week three. Week four added ₹115.7 crore, followed by ₹35.8 crore over the fifth weekend. By the end of day 33, the India nett total stood at ₹831.40 crore, cementing the film’s status as one of the strongest theatrical runs in recent years.

The film has also made a mark overseas. Last week, Dhurandhar overtook Pathaan to become the highest-grossing Bollywood film in North America, crossing $17.5 million in the region, as per Sacnilk data.

The achievement drew praise from across the industry. Yash Raj Films, led by Aditya Chopra, congratulated director Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios for setting a new benchmark, describing the film as “a milestone in the history of Indian cinema.”

Released worldwide on December 5, Dhurandhar features an ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, and Danish Pandor. A revised cut of the film has been screening since January 1, following minor edits directed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Despite the changes, the film’s box office trajectory remains unaffected, reinforcing its position as a rare, single-language blockbuster with global impact.
