‘Sandese Aate Hain’ Resonates at India–Pakistan Border as ‘Border 2’ Team Meets Jawans in Jaisalmer

A powerful moment of patriotism unfolded along the India–Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district when the iconic song Sandese Aate Hain echoed across the sandy dunes, sung jointly by Border Security Force (BSF) jawans, actors Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, and singer Sonu Nigam. The emotional rendition coincided with the official launch events of the upcoming war drama Border 2.
The moment took shape at the zero line, where a BSF jawan, seated on the dunes, began playing the tune on a harmonium and singing softly. Fellow soldiers soon joined in, many visibly moved. Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, who star in Border 2, lent their voices, while Sonu Nigam—who originally popularised the song in the 1997 film Border—completed the moment, reviving memories of sacrifice, separation, and service.
The performance followed a series of events tied to the film’s promotion. On December 2, the makers launched Ghar Kab Aaoge, a new track from Border 2, at an auditorium near the Tanot Mata temple, a site closely associated with India’s military history. Ahead of the launch, the cast and crew offered prayers at the temple, seeking blessings for the film.
Actors Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty, and producer Bhushan Kumar of T-Series attended the ceremony. Sunny Deol, who reprises his association with the Border franchise, described the sequel as a tribute to the courage, discipline, and sacrifices of India’s armed forces.

The following day, the team visited BSF posts along the border and interacted with jawans stationed at the zero line. The BSF honoured the film’s cast and crew with traditional turbans and mementoes, acknowledging the gesture of solidarity and respect shown by the team.
Speaking at the border, Sonu Nigam called the experience deeply personal. “Returning to the border after so many years and singing the song that defined my career is extraordinary. With Border 2, we are once again telling the story of the nation’s protectors,” he said.

Videos of the jawans singing alongside the actors and the singer have since gone viral on social media, drawing widespread praise for the unscripted, heartfelt moment. The cast returned to Mumbai on Sunday, but the images from the dunes—of soldiers and artists united by music—continue to resonate online.
Border 2 is positioned as a continuation of the legacy of the original film, aiming to reconnect audiences with the human stories behind military service.
