56th International Film Festival of India Kicks Off in Goa; Anupam Kher’s Films Featured

The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) officially began on Wednesday in Panaji, Goa, showcasing a global lineup of films from November 20 to 28. The festival opened with the inauguration of the Waves Film Bazaar, attended by Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, director Shekhar Kapur, and Telugu actor Nandamuri Balakrishna
Anupam Kher expressed his delight as four of his films are set to be screened at IFFI 2025. The films include Tanvi The Great, The Bengal Files, 1942: A Love Story, and the Canadian production Calorie, directed by Indo-Canadian filmmaker Eisha Marjara. Speaking to ANI, Kher said, “Some achievements in life make you humble, and this is one of them. I am excited that three of my films are being screened, and I will also be conducting a masterclass.”
The actor’s masterclass, titled Giving Up is Not an Option, aims to inspire budding filmmakers and actors, reflecting on his 41-year career spanning 549 films. Kher highlighted the diversity of his work featured at the festival, including Tanvi The Great in the Indian Panorama section, The Bengal Files, and Calorie in the International Section, along with a special screening of the classic 1942: A Love Story.
On social media, Kher shared his excitement, writing, “Feeling excited and honored…very few actors get the opportunity to showcase such diverse and important work at a festival where cinema is celebrated internationally. This certainly feels like a fantastic year.”
IFFI 2025 promises to be a major platform for filmmakers and artists worldwide, celebrating cinematic excellence and fostering cultural exchange. Screenings, workshops, and masterclasses aim to provide industry insights and creative inspiration to audiences, while honoring veteran actors and new talent alike.
The festival continues through November 28, with daily screenings, panel discussions, and special events highlighting both Indian and international cinema.
