‘Baahubali’ Returns in Animated Form: ‘The Eternal War Part 1’ Set to Redefine Indian Animation

Nearly a decade after Baahubali reshaped Indian cinema, the epic saga is returning — this time in an animated avatar. Titled Baahubali: The Eternal War Part 1, the film’s teaser was released recently, offering a first glimpse of an animated Amarendra Baahubali that has reignited excitement among fans.

The new project marks the franchise’s evolution from live-action spectacle to animation, promising a visually rich retelling of the legendary battles and characters that made Baahubali a household name. The original films — Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017) — shattered box-office records, becoming the first Indian franchise to cross ₹1,000 crore worldwide.

The re-release of both films as Baahubali: The Epic on October 31 this year reaffirmed the saga’s lasting appeal, earning over ₹27 crore in five days. The move paved the way for the animated version, which is expected to attract both loyal fans and younger audiences discovering the story for the first time.

Industry observers believe The Eternal War Part 1 could also mark a turning point for Indian animation. Traditionally seen as children’s entertainment, animated films are now exploring mythology, fantasy, and action — themes that resonate across demographics. The massive success of Mahavatar Narsimha, which recently became India’s highest-grossing animated film, has further proven the genre’s potential.

With advancements in animation technology, a growing pool of skilled artists, and rising demand for original content on streaming platforms, India’s animation industry appears poised for a breakthrough. If Baahubali: The Eternal War lives up to its legacy, it could well spark a new chapter for Indian cinema — one where animation stands shoulder to shoulder with live-action blockbusters.
