Accident during Kantara 2 shoot, Rishab Shetty narrowly escapes!: Executive Director clarifies on boat capsizing reports, says—The boat was fake, everyone is safe.

Reports of accidents from the sets of Rishab Shetty’s film Kantara 2 have been surfacing continuously. A while ago, a junior artist drowned during a shooting break, and recently, another junior artist passed away due to a heart attack. Most recently, there were reports that strong winds caused a boat to capsize on the set, with Rishab Shetty and around 30 others on board. Thankfully, everyone escaped unharmed. Now, the film’s executive director has issued a clarification regarding these reports.

Adarsh J.A. stated that the boat that capsized during the shoot was fake. A dummy boat had been constructed at the Mani Reservoir in Karnataka, solely for background visuals. While the strong winds and rain did cause the boat to overturn, there was no one on it at the time. Adarsh added that the incident was so minor that it didn’t even halt the shoot. The crew simply removed the boat and continued filming.

Heavy damage caused on set due to boat capsize

While the team has downplayed the incident as minor, a PTI report quoting police sources mentioned that there was chaos on set following the accident. Although all crew members were safe, the makers suffered significant losses. Several shooting equipments, including cameras, were swept away when the boat capsized.

Series of Major Accidents on the Sets of Kantara 2

On June 12, 2025, mimicry artist Kalabhavan Niju passed away after suffering a heart attack on the sets of Kantara 2.

Earlier, on May 6, junior artist M.F. Kapil died due to drowning in a river. His body was found floating. Reports stated that Kapil had gone swimming during a lunch break in between the shoot of Kantara 2, where the strong current led to his death. After the news broke, the Film Federation demanded strict action against the makers regarding the incident.

In addition, some time ago, a bus carrying junior artists overturned while returning from the shooting location, and a storm with heavy rain caused damage to the film set.
