Veteran music composer Anu Malik has addressed recent reports suggesting he was unhappy over not receiving due credit for the song Ghar Kab Aaoge in the upcoming film Border 2, firmly rejecting the claims and calling them incorrect.
The clarification came after media reports, attributed to a PTI interview, stated that Malik had demanded recognition for the song, sparking speculation about a possible disagreement with the film’s producers. On Thursday, the composer took to Instagram to set the record straight, stating that he had already been credited with “immense respect and warmth” by T-Series head Bhushan Kumar.
“I want to clarify that Bhushan ji has already given me credit for the song ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ with immense respect and warmth. This is a unique collaboration of which I am very proud. Any other report claiming otherwise is completely false,” Malik wrote, adding that he stands by the collaboration with “pride and gratitude.”
The clarification follows the release of the song’s teaser by T-Series on December 29. The teaser prominently features Anu Malik’s name at the top of the credits, along with lyricist Javed Akhtar, who penned the original version of the song. Both names also appear in the official description of the teaser, underscoring their acknowledged contribution.
Ghar Kab Aaoge is scheduled for a grand launch on January 2, with members of the film’s cast expected to attend the event. The song is a reimagined version of the iconic Sandese Aate Hain from the 1997 war film Border, directed by J.P. Dutta. The original track, sung by Roop Kumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam, became a defining anthem of the film, with music by Anu Malik and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
In Border 2, the recreated version has been composed by Mithoon, with new lyrics written by Manoj Muntashir. The vocals feature an ensemble lineup including Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh, aiming to blend nostalgia with a contemporary soundscape.
Malik has often spoken about the origins of the original composition, revealing in earlier interviews that the tune for Sandese Aate Hain came to him spontaneously and was composed within minutes during a discussion with Javed Akhtar and J.P. Dutta.
With the composer now publicly dismissing reports of any discord, the focus has shifted back to the song’s release and its reception, as Border 2 prepares to revisit one of Hindi cinema’s most emotionally resonant musical legacies.
