Anupam Kher Gifts Smartphone to Security Guard on Film Set, Wins Hearts Online

Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher touched hearts on Saturday by gifting a smartphone to a security guard on the set of the upcoming film Khosla Ka Ghosla-2 in Sohna, Gurugram, Haryana. The gesture, shared widely on social media, highlighted the actor’s thoughtfulness and quickly drew praise from netizens.

The recipient, Dharmendra, a security guard at the film set, had approached Kher with his old keypad phone, requesting a photograph. Aware of the difficulty in capturing a photo with the basic device, Kher decided to gift him a smartphone so he could take his first picture with the actor. Kher documented the moment in a 2-minute 45-second video on his social media account, showing the emotional exchange.

In the video, Kher greets Dharmendra amidst a foggy morning on set and asks to see his phone. When shown the keypad device, Kher remarks on the lack of a camera, saying, “The day you came to get your photo taken, I didn’t feel good. That’s why I have brought a photophone for you.” Dharmendra, visibly moved, is handed the new smartphone, with Kher encouraging him to take his first picture with the actor.

Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Dharmendra revealed that the phone will help his son, who is studying in 12th grade, with online education. “Nothing is greater than education, and this gift is the most precious to me,” he said. The moment also offered Dharmendra an opportunity to reminisce about old Bollywood film scenes, sharing light-hearted memories that had Kher and the crew laughing.113

Dharmendra, originally from Ghaziabad but a resident of Sohna, has been working for Mohan Security Agency for a year. He earns ₹15,000 per month for 12-hour shifts, while his wife works as a tailor. He has two sons—one pursuing graduation and the other in 12th grade. The gift arrived through Kher’s personal assistant after the shooting concluded on January 17, and Dharmendra recounted how his family initially struggled to believe the news until seeing the phone themselves.

The shooting took place at Central Park-Flower Valley-3, Dhunela Birka village, with several other actors, including Ravi Kishan, on location. Kher’s gesture has since been widely applauded on social media, with fans lauding him for recognizing the efforts of behind-the-scenes staff and emphasizing the value of small, thoughtful acts.
