Renowned Punjabi and Bollywood singer B Praak has received a serious death threat demanding a ransom of ₹10 crore, prompting police to initiate an investigation into possible links with organised crime, including the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The threat was not made directly to the singer but was conveyed through fellow Punjabi artiste Dilnoor, who has filed a formal complaint with Mohali Police.
According to the complaint submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Mohali, Dilnoor received two missed calls from an overseas number on January 5. He did not respond at the time. The following day, he received another call from a different international number. Finding the call suspicious, he disconnected it shortly after answering.
Soon after, Dilnoor said he received a voice message in which the caller allegedly identified himself as “Arju Bishnoi” and claimed association with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller reportedly instructed Dilnoor to inform B Praak that ₹10 crore must be paid within a week, failing which the singer would face “serious consequences.”
Police sources said the content of the audio message is being verified, and the phone numbers used to make the calls are under technical surveillance. Officials are also examining whether the caller genuinely has links to the Bishnoi gang or is attempting to exploit the gang’s name to extort money.
A senior police officer confirmed that the complaint has been registered and that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness given the nature of the threat and B Praak’s public profile. “We are coordinating with central agencies and cyber units to trace the origin of the calls and identify those involved,” the officer said, adding that security inputs are being assessed.
B Praak, whose real name is Pratik Bachan, is among the most prominent voices in the Punjabi and Hindi music industries. He rose to fame as a music producer before becoming a chart-topping singer with songs such as Mann Bharrya, Teri Mitti, Pachtaoge, Filhall and Ranjha. His popularity and frequent public appearances have raised concerns about artist safety amid a spate of extortion threats targeting celebrities in recent years.
While police have not officially confirmed the involvement of any gang, the mention of the Bishnoi network has drawn attention due to its past links with threats and attacks on high-profile individuals. Investigators said all possibilities remain open at this stage.
The case has caused unease within the music industry, with artistes calling for stronger security measures. Police said further details would be shared as the investigation progresses.
