Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has finally addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3, emphasizing that it should not be equated with geopolitical tensions like India-Pakistan cricket matches. Speaking from Malaysia during his Aura Tour, the singer-actor clarified his stance amid backlash triggered by the Pahalgam attack and the film's inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
In a candid statement, Diljit said, "That's my country's flag; we are all Indians. When Sardaar Ji was made in February, matches were ongoing, but after the tragic Pahalgam incident, we condemned it and prayed for justice." He highlighted the timeline, noting that the film was shot before recent escalations, and accused national media of portraying him as anti-national. "Punjabis and Sardars can never go against the country," he asserted, drawing a clear distinction between entertainment and national security.
The controversy erupted post-Pahalgam attack, with social media users questioning the collaboration with Hania Aamir amid India-Pakistan tensions. As protests mounted, the film's release was restricted to international markets, excluding India. Diljit reiterated that his priority is his nation, stating, "Country always comes first."
This isn't Diljit's first brush with scrutiny. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) threatened bans on him and his production house, White Leather House. Rumors also swirled about his removal from Border 2, but Diljit confirmed his role as Flying Officer Nirmaljeet Singh Sekhon via social media videos. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, slated for January 23, 2026.
Diljit's comments come amid his successful tour, with the Malaysia show on September 24 drawing massive crowds. Fans praise his patriotism, while critics debate cross-border collaborations in Bollywood. As tensions simmer, Diljit's words underscore the challenges of art in a divided world.
