Disha Patani’s Father Granted Firearms License Months After Attack on Bareilly Home

The Bareilly district administration has approved a firearms license for Jagdish Patani, father of Bollywood actor Disha Patani, nearly three months after unidentified assailants opened fire at the family’s residence. Officials confirmed that the license, sought shortly after the September attack, was cleared following standard verification procedures.

District Magistrate Avnish Singh said the retired DSP had applied for a revolver or pistol license in the wake of the firing incident. “All due processes were completed, after which the license was issued,” Singh told local media.

The attack took place on the night of September 11–12, when two men on a motorcycle allegedly fired at least 10 rounds at the Patani home. At the time, Disha Patani was in Mumbai for work, while her parents and sister Khushboo Patani, a former Army officer, were inside the house.

In his FIR, Jagdish Patani stated that he was shot at when he stepped onto the balcony after hearing his dog bark. He escaped by dropping to the floor as the suspects opened fire. CCTV footage later corroborated his account.

Soon after the incident, gangsters Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar claimed responsibility in a social media post, alleging the attack was retaliation for remarks made by Khushboo Patani. She had publicly criticised spiritual figure Aniruddhacharya Maharaj for comments she described as derogatory toward women and live-in relationships. The gang threatened further action if such comments were repeated.

Police have since arrested all four individuals accused of involvement in the firing. Investigators are examining the gang’s claims and potential motives behind the attack.

With the new weapons license, authorities say Patani is now permitted to keep a firearm for personal security as the investigation continues.
