Actress Divya Khosla on Thursday shared a call recording with filmmaker Mukesh Bhatt, addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the films Saavi and Jigra. The move comes after Bhatt suggested in an earlier interview that the dispute over alleged similarities between the two films was primarily for publicity.
In the audio shared on Instagram, Divya asked Mukesh Bhatt if he believed she had done “something cheap” or orchestrated a publicity stunt regarding the dispute with Alia Bhatt’s Jigra. Mukesh clarified, stating, “No one asked me, nor did I tell anyone. All this is being created by some people for their own benefit.” He also reassured her that the negative reports coinciding with her birthday were part of a deliberate plan targeting her, and encouraged her to focus on her work.
Divya Khosla, who played the lead role in Saavi (2024), wrote that the recording reveals the lobbying and gatekeeping prevalent in the film industry. “I am forced to share this phone call so that people can hear for themselves how some groups try to ruin careers and suppress talent,” she said, calling for greater transparency and accountability within the industry.
The controversy traces back to 2024 when Divya alleged that Jigra copied the theme of Saavi, particularly the storyline involving a rescue from jail. She also claimed that Jigra’s box office numbers were inflated through bulk ticket purchases. Mukesh Bhatt had earlier dismissed such claims, explaining that while film themes can be similar, their execution differs. He also noted that controversies attract media attention, especially when big stars like Alia Bhatt are involved, and emphasized that Alia did not need to copy ideas to succeed.
The call recording highlights both sides of the dispute and underscores broader concerns about fairness and influence in the Indian film industry. Divya Khosla’s public disclosure aims to spark a conversation on industry practices affecting emerging talent and creative recognition.
