Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon when an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed just two minutes after takeoff in Ahmedabad. The crash claimed the lives of 241 people, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and 12 crew members. This incident adds to the list of aviation disasters that have taken the lives of many, including several celebrities.
Soundarya
South Indian actress Soundarya, best known for playing Amitabh Bachchan’s wife in the film Sooryavansham, tragically died in a helicopter crash. She was seven months pregnant at the time. On April 17, 2004, Soundarya and her brother lost their lives when their helicopter crashed near Bengaluru. She was just 31 years old and was on her way to campaign in Karimnagar, Karnataka, when the accident occurred.
Taruni Sachdev
Child actress Taruni Sachdev, known for her role in the film Paa, tragically died in a plane crash on May 14, 2012. She was traveling to Nepal on her birthday when the aircraft collided with a mountainside near Jomsom Airport. At just 14 years old, Taruni lost her life in the Agni Air Dornier 228 crash near Jomsom, leaving the film industry and her fans in deep shock.
Inder Thakur
Inder Thakur, known for his role in the film Nadiya Ke Paar, was not only a talented actor but also a fashion designer and a crew member for Air India. In June 1985, he was aboard Air India Flight 182, which was tragically destroyed in a terrorist bombing.
Inder Thakur died at the young age of 35. His wife Priya and their child were also on the same flight. This remains one of the deadliest air tragedies in Indian history.
Zubeida Begum
Zubeida Begum was a popular actress in the 1950s, and her life was no less dramatic than a film. Despite being divorced and a mother, she was deeply loved by Maharaja Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur, who gave her the title of "Chhoti Rani" (Junior Queen).
After India gained independence and the monarchy began to dissolve, the state of Rajasthan was formed in 1949. During the first legislative elections in 1952, Hanwant Singh entered politics and formed the Akhil Bharatiya Ram Rajya Parishad party to contest against the Congress. He campaigned with his first wife, Krishna Kumari, while Zubeida, being Muslim, was kept away from the political spotlight.
Their love story met a tragic end when Zubeida and Hanwant Singh died together in a plane crash in 1952, shortly before the election results.
