The narrative is set against real-life incidents such as the 1999 IC-814 plane hijacking and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. R. Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, head of an Indian intelligence agency, who recruits Hamza (Ranveer Singh), a young criminal from Punjab, to infiltrate Pakistan’s underworld. Hamza undergoes rigorous training before embarking on a high-stakes mission confronting gangsters like Rehman Dacoit (Akshaye Khanna) and Karachi’s SP Chaudhary Aslam (Sanjay Dutt). The film alternates between the gritty world of crime and suspenseful espionage, keeping viewers invested in Hamza’s journey.
Ranveer Singh delivers a compelling performance, perfectly embodying Hamza’s physicality, determination, and emotional depth. Akshaye Khanna impresses as the menacing villain, while Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan add credibility and gravitas. Despite limited screen time, Sara Arjun injects emotional resonance that heightens the stakes of the story.
Aditya Dhar’s direction is visually striking, with elaborate sets and realistic locations enhancing the cinematic experience. The film spans over three hours but maintains engagement through its action sequences and suspenseful plot, though a few pacing issues are noticeable.
The soundtrack and background score amplify the tension and emotion. Key tracks include Jogi, a high-energy rap-infused spy anthem; Ez-Ez, suited for action-heavy scenes; and Gahra Hua, a romantic number that humanizes the narrative.
While the runtime and slow pacing may challenge some viewers, Dhurandhar remains a thrilling, large-scale cinematic experience. Fans of espionage, action, and patriotic thrillers will find it a worthwhile watch, driven by Ranveer Singh’s standout performance and the film’s high production values.
