Imran Khan Returns to Films After a Decade, Says Comeback Driven by Passion, Not Stardom

Actor Imran Khan is set to make his long-awaited return to the big screen nearly ten years after stepping away from films. The actor, whose last release was Katti Batti in 2015, confirmed that he will headline a new romantic comedy directed by Danish Aslam, co-starring Bhumi Pednekar. The project marks his second collaboration with Aslam after Break Ke Baad.

Khan, 41, said in an interview that his decision to return is rooted in creative motivation rather than financial gain or the pursuit of fame. “The reason for my comeback is not money and not stardom,” he told Hindustan Times, emphasising that his interest lies in reconnecting with the craft and engaging with audiences again.

The actor withdrew from mainstream cinema after a series of films that received mixed responses, choosing instead to focus on his personal life. During his hiatus, Khan spent time with his family and embraced a low-profile routine away from the industry spotlight. He has occasionally addressed mental health challenges and the pressures of stardom, which contributed to his extended break.

With his return, Khan said he hopes to rebuild his career on the strength of performance rather than expectation. He noted that professional longevity in the film industry depends on skill, discipline, and consistent work—elements he is prepared to reinvest in as he steps back into acting.

Imran Khan first rose to prominence with the 2008 hit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, which established him as a popular face among younger audiences. His upcoming film with Pednekar is expected to go on floors soon, with the makers likely to announce additional cast and production details in the coming weeks.

Industry observers say Khan’s comeback adds a fresh dynamic to the slate of upcoming releases, particularly as nostalgic interest in early-2010s stars continues to rise. The film is being positioned as a mainstream theatrical release, marking Khan’s full-fledged return to cinema after a decade-long absence.
