Indian Army honours Malayalam superstar: Only Indian actor to receive honourary rank of Lieutenant Colonel

Malayalam cinema superstar Mohanlal was honoured by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi for his outstanding contribution to society and his continuous association with the armed forces, on Tuesday.

In fact, Mohanlal is the first and only Indian actor to receive the honourary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian 'Territorial Army'. However, Mohanlal achieved this rank in 2009 after becoming an actor.

Additionally, the actor also shared a post on X, in which he wrote, "Today, I was called to the Army Headquarters by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, where I was honored with the COAS Commendation Card in front of seven Army Commanders."

"As an Honourary Lieutenant Colonel, I am very happy and grateful to receive this honor. I heartily thank General Upendra Dwivedi, the entire Indian Army, and my parent unit, the Territorial Army, for this honor and for always supporting me."

Mohanlal was honoured with Hindi cinema's most prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to the film industry. President Droupadi Murmu presented him with a shawl and the Golden Lotus Award. During this, Mohanlal received a standing ovation.

 

Mohanlal has worked not only in Malayalam, but also in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada films. Mohanlal, who started his career in the 1980s with 'Manjil Virinja Pookkal', has acted in over 350 films.

Before this, Mohanlal has received the National Film Award 5 times. He has also been honoured with Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Due to his contribution in the field of cinema, he has been given the title of 'The Complete Actor'.
