Indian Idol 3 Winner Prashant Tamang Dies at 43: Singer-Actor Passes Away Due to Heart Attack

Prashant Tamang, the celebrated singer and actor who rose to fame after winning Indian Idol Season 3, passed away on Sunday at the age of 43. Reports confirm that he suffered a heart attack at his residence in New Delhi. Tamang’s sudden demise has left fans, the Gorkha community, and the Indian music and entertainment industry in shock.

Tamang first gained national recognition in 2007 when he won the third season of Indian Idol, a milestone that brought Nepali music to the forefront of Indian television. At the time, he was serving in the West Bengal Police Orchestra, and his participation in the reality show helped unite communities across Darjeeling, Terai, Dooars, Sikkim, and the Northeast.

Reacting to the news, Raju Bista, BJP MP from Darjeeling and national spokesperson, described Tamang’s passing as a deep loss to both the Gorkha community and the world of art and music. “Winning Indian Idol was a proud moment for the Gorkha community. It gave national recognition to Nepali music and inspired many aspiring artists,” Bista said.

Following his Indian Idol victory, Tamang released his first album, Dhanyawad, and performed in numerous live shows both in India and abroad. Expanding his artistic career, he ventured into acting in 2010 with the Nepali film Gorkha Paltan. Over the years, he appeared in multiple projects, including the role of Daniel in the second season of the web series Paatal Lok. His last known work was in the Bollywood film Battle of Galwan, starring Salman Khan.

Tamang’s journey from a police orchestra singer to a nationally recognized entertainer made him a household name. Known for his melodious voice and humble demeanor, he earned admiration across generations. His contributions to music and acting bridged cultural and linguistic boundaries, and he remained an inspiration for aspiring singers from the Northeast.

Prashant Tamang is survived by his family, who have requested privacy during this difficult time. The Gorkha community, music enthusiasts, and fans nationwide have taken to social media to express condolences and share memories of the singer’s remarkable journey.

As the nation mourns, tributes continue to pour in from artists, politicians, and fans alike, honoring Tamang’s legacy as a trailblazer in Indian reality television and Nepali music.
