Kamaal R Khan Granted Bail in Oshiwara Firing Case; Mumbai Police Await Ballistic Report

Actor and producer Kamaal R Khan, popularly known as KRK, has been granted bail in the Oshiwara firing case. The actor secured bail on a personal bond of ₹25,000 on Friday, following his arrest last week in connection with a gun discharge incident at his Mumbai residence.

KRK was initially questioned by Mumbai Police regarding the firing and later taken into custody. According to sources, the actor claimed that the incident occurred accidentally while cleaning his licensed firearm. During his interrogation, he maintained that no individual or property was targeted, and the discharge was unintentional.

Speaking to the media, KRK’s lawyer, Sana Raees Khan, criticised the arrest, terming it “a misuse of the legal process.” She added, “The arrest was carried out without prior notice, and KRK’s constitutional rights were not considered. Alleged missing cartridges, if any, could be an administrative error handled by the licensing authority. This does not warrant criminal prosecution.”

The lawyer also highlighted the technical limitations, noting that a pistol’s range is typically 20 to 30 meters, while the distance between KRK’s bungalow and the nearby building allegedly hearing the gunshot is approximately 1,500 meters. “It is physically impossible for a bullet to reach that far,” she stated.

According to Mumbai Police, the firing complaint prompted a review of CCTV footage and the questioning of several witnesses. KRK was presented before a court and remanded to two weeks of judicial custody before the bail order was issued. Authorities are awaiting the ballistic report to verify the claims regarding the firearm discharge.

KRK, who gained public attention as a contestant on Bigg Boss Season 3 in 2009, is also known for his outspoken criticism of Bollywood films and actors on social media. His controversial statements have previously led to legal battles, including a defamation suit filed by actor Salman Khan.

In addition to his acting and production ventures, KRK played the lead role in the 2008 film Deshdrohi, which he also produced. He later appeared in a supporting role in the 2014 film Ek Villain. Despite his polarising persona, KRK remains a prominent figure in Indian cinema discussions, particularly on social media platforms.

With the actor out on bail, Mumbai Police are continuing their investigation, including a detailed review of the ballistic findings, to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.
