Kangana Ranaut Alleges Masaba Gupta Denied Saree for Ram Janmabhoomi Visit, Calls It “Bitterness and Hatred”

Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has publicly accused fashion designer Masaba Gupta of refusing to provide a saree for her visit to Ram Janmabhoomi, describing the incident as deeply humiliating and emotionally overwhelming. The revelations were shared by Kangana on her official X account on Saturday, reigniting discussions about industry discrimination and professional disagreements.

Kangana stated that the incident occurred while her film Tejas was about to release. She had requested the stylist handling her promotional wardrobe to arrange a saree from Masaba Gupta for her pilgrimage. However, Kangana alleges that the designer instructed the stylist not to allow her clothes to be used for the Ram Janmabhoomi visit. By then, Kangana had already left for Ayodhya wearing the saree, which the stylist had purchased personally to avoid disappointing the actress.

“Designers are very happy when their clothes are seen on a celebrity. Have you ever seen Masaba Gupta or her brand use these pictures?” Kangana wrote. She added that the stylist, described as “honest and good,” quietly told her not to tag Masaba or her brand on social media to avoid further embarrassment. Kangana described the experience as “so much hatred, so much bitterness, so much prejudice—ugh, how ugly,” revealing the emotional impact the incident had on her.116

This is not the first time Kangana has spoken about professional discrimination in the industry. She previously criticized statements made by music composer A.R. Rahman, claiming he faced discrimination, while she herself experienced barriers in professional collaborations due to communal prejudices. Kangana recalled that several designers, who once sought her endorsements, later refused to provide clothes and stopped acknowledging her publicly.

“By then I had left Lucknow for Ayodhya, so changing clothes was not possible. I felt so humiliated and low that I quietly sat in my car and cried,” she wrote. Kangana emphasized that the incident left a lasting impression, citing it as a personal example of unprofessional conduct in the fashion and entertainment sectors.115

As of now, Masaba Gupta has not issued any public response or clarification regarding Kangana’s allegations. The post has sparked widespread debate online, with fans and observers commenting on the intersection of celebrity culture, brand politics, and religious sensitivities in India’s entertainment industry.
