Mumbai Police have taken actor and film critic Kamal Rashid Khan, popularly known as KRK, into custody in connection with a firing incident reported in the Oshiwara area of Andheri. Police officials said Khan is the main accused in the case and has admitted to firing shots from his licensed firearm.
According to police sources, Khan was brought to the Oshiwara Police Station late on Friday evening for questioning. During his statement, he acknowledged that the shots were fired from his licensed gun, which has since been seized. Officials said procedural formalities are underway to determine further legal action.
The incident dates back to January 18, when residents of Nalanda Society in Oshiwara reported hearing gunshots. Subsequent inspection revealed that two bullets had struck the residential building—one on the second floor and another on the fourth floor. No injuries were reported.
Police said one of the affected flats belongs to writer-director Neeraj Kumar Mishra, while the other is owned by model Prateek Baid. Both residents later approached the police after discovering bullet marks and lodged complaints.
Initially, investigators faced difficulties tracing the source of the firing, as CCTV footage from the surrounding area did not provide clear leads. However, a forensic examination of the recovered bullets and trajectory analysis suggested that the shots were fired from a nearby bungalow allegedly owned by Khan.
Based on the forensic findings, police intensified their inquiry and questioned Khan, leading to his detention. Officials said the seized firearm will undergo ballistic testing to establish whether it matches the bullets recovered from the site.
A senior police officer said the investigation is focused on determining the circumstances under which the firing occurred and whether it was accidental or intentional. “The accused has stated that the firearm used was licensed. We are verifying all documents related to the weapon and examining forensic evidence,” the officer said.
Police are also examining whether any safety norms or provisions of the Arms Act were violated. Statements of witnesses and residents of the society are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe.
Khan, known for his outspoken presence on social media and involvement in film-related controversies, has not issued a public statement following his detention. Police said he remains available for questioning as the investigation progresses.
Officials stressed that no conclusions would be drawn until the forensic and ballistic reports are completed. Further action, including the possibility of charges being filed, will depend on the outcome of the investigation and legal scrutiny of the facts.
