Mika Singh Offers 10 Acres for Stray Dog Shelter, Appeals to Supreme Court

Bollywood singer Mika Singh has announced plans to donate 10 acres of his land for the care and shelter of stray dogs, while appealing to the Supreme Court of India to ensure their welfare is protected. The appeal comes in response to recent court orders concerning the relocation of stray dogs from urban areas.

On Sunday, Singh shared the announcement on his official X account, writing, “Mika Singh humbly appeals to the Honorable Supreme Court of India to avoid any decision that harms the welfare of dogs. I am ready to donate 10 acres of land for building shelters for dogs, ensuring their safety, health, and a good life. My only request is that the right staff and responsible people be provided for their care.”

The singer’s appeal follows a series of Supreme Court interventions on stray dogs, initiated after incidents of rabies-related deaths and dog bites. The court had earlier ordered the removal of stray dogs from residential areas, highways, and sensitive zones such as schools and court campuses. However, after nationwide debate and public protests, the court clarified that its intention was not to completely eliminate dogs from streets but to ensure public safety through sterilization and regulated sheltering.

Timeline of Supreme Court Orders on Stray Dogs

  • 28 July 2025: Court took suo motu cognisance of rabies deaths linked to stray dog attacks.

  • 11 August 2025: Ordered removal of stray dogs from residential areas in Delhi-NCR.

  • 13 August 2025: Case referred to a three-judge bench after public backlash.

  • 14 August 2025: Bench stayed the earlier removal order.

  • 22 August 2025: Directed sterilization and housing of captured dogs in kennels.

  • 7 November 2025: Ordered removal of stray dogs from state and national highways.

  • 7 January 2026: Raised concerns over stray dogs in schools and court campuses.

Experts say that India faces a complex challenge balancing public safety and animal welfare, with over 30 million stray dogs reported nationwide. The Supreme Court has emphasized sterilization, vaccination, and proper sheltering as the preferred measures rather than mass relocation.

Mika Singh’s initiative is expected to contribute toward humane management of stray dogs, providing both shelter and medical care. Welfare organizations have welcomed his offer, noting that private support is critical to supplement government-run shelters, which often face resource constraints.

With ongoing debates on public safety and animal rights, Singh’s intervention adds a high-profile voice advocating for ethical treatment of stray dogs, while urging authorities to ensure proper staffing and management at shelters.14
