Model Karan Oberoi adds glamour to college fashion shows

While Bollywood actors are often associated with large fan followings, personalities from the modelling industry, supermodels too, have been drawing significant attention, particularly on college campuses.

Model Karan Oberoi has emerged as a familiar face at student cultural festivals, where he has been invited to judge fashion shows across various colleges, including IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, Jai Hind College, H.R. College of Commerce, SNDT Women’s University, Rotaract Club, among others.

On 20 February, Oberoi judged a fashion show at M.L. Dahanukar College of Commerce in Mumbai. He has also recently been approached by colleges in Madhya Pradesh to attend similar events.

However, due to prior professional commitments this month, he was unable to accept those invitations. Oberoi has expressed eagerness to visit more campuses across India as his schedule permits and loves helping unprivileged and college students become fashion models.

From winning the title of Mr. Best Physique at the Mr. India International pageant and also finishing among the top five, to walking the runway for Indian designers at fashion weeks Lakme to GQ, including Shantanu & Nikhil, Rohit Bal and Rajesh Pratap Singh, he is today celebrated as one of the supermodels from India.

Oberoi has featured in several advertising campaigns, most notably Royal Enfield’s “Made Like a Gun” campaign, which brought him national attention as a poster model. This was the first of two campaigns he did with the brand between 2012 and 2014. He also appeared in a television commercial for Isuzu Motors, which aired mostly during the 2017–18 Indian Premier League season.

His work also includes print campaigns for numerous denim and apparel brands, including FBB, as well as high fashion editorials. Between 2018 and 2019, he served as a lifestyle model for Hindustan Times, appearing in multiple fashion editorials that showcased men’s designer wear collections. After being featured on the cover of Men’s Health India, India Today News Channel documented his fitness journey in 2015.

He is also credited as one of the first Indian models to establish fitness modeling as a mainstream category in India, which previously lacked formal recognition before 2011. In addition to fashion campaigns and commercials, Oberoi has appeared in music videos, including “Jogan Tere Ishq Di”, released by Zee Music Company, in which he played the lead role of John.

Students at these festivals respond enthusiastically to Karan Oberoi’s presence, often gathering for photographs and brief interactions after events. Organisers say his appearances draw large crowds,

with many attendees seeking selfies and conversations about careers in modelling. Among some young men on campus, Oberoi is viewed as an inspiration for those aspiring to pursue modelling professionally.
