Mukesh Chhabra Calls Dhurandhar Casting “Explosive”: Says at IFFI 2025

At the ongoing 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji, Goa, renowned Bollywood casting director Mukesh Chhabra discussed his upcoming projects — Dhurandhar, King, and Tere Ishq Mein. In an exclusive conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Chhabra also spoke about his long-standing relationships with stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.

Chhabra said the buzz around Dhurandhar, Tere Ishq Mein and The Family Man 3 feels as exciting as the phase after Gangs of Wasseypur, Dangal, Kai Po Che! and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
According to him, Dhurandhar stands out even more:
“After this film, people will forget everything I’ve done before. They will remember only Dhurandhar,” he said.

He added that the film’s casting took nearly a year and a half of his life. “Whether it was Sanjay Dutt, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, or newcomer Sara Arjunevery role demanded attention. I worked hard and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.”

Speaking about Tere Ishq Mein, starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, Chhabra said the film signals director Aanand L. Rai’s return to his original style seen in Raanjhanaa. “You’ll see the effort on screen. Rai’s filmmaking essence, which seemed missing for some time, comes back with this film.”

Reflecting on Dangal and Kai Po Che!, he said the praise for those films still follows him. “I became close friends with Sushant, Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh during Kai Po Che! and all of them went on to achieve great success. I want everyone associated with me to become a star.”

On his relationship with Bollywood’s biggest names, Chhabra said that genuine bonds form through sincere work. “Shah Rukh, Salman and Akshay have been like family for 18 years. If you respect your relationships, they last.”

Speaking briefly about Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited King, he said, “The teaser alone was enough to create massive excitement.”

Chhabra said the most meaningful compliments he has received are messages from actors’ parents thanking him for helping their children build a career in Mumbai. “Those blessings matter the most,” he said.
