Rajpal Yadav Granted Interim Relief in Cheque Bounce Case; ₹1.5 Crore Payment Key to Release

The Delhi High Court has granted interim relief to actor Rajpal Yadav in a cheque bounce case, temporarily staying his jail sentence. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma ordered that the sentence will remain on hold until March 18, 2026, following Yadav’s partial repayment to the complainant company and his stated need to attend a family wedding.

Rajpal Yadav, known for his work in Hindi cinema, was convicted for issuing cheques that bounced due to insufficient funds. The High Court, responding to his interim bail application, provided temporary relief contingent upon the full payment of ₹1.5 crore to the complainant.

The hearing took place on Monday, February 16, in the Delhi High Court. The next hearing is scheduled for 3 PM on the same day to review compliance with the payment directives.

The court emphasized that Yadav’s release on interim bail is dependent on the full deposit of the stipulated amount. Justice Sharma noted that previous partial payments — a demand draft of ₹25 lakh and another ₹75 lakh — have already been made, leaving the balance to be deposited by the court’s specified deadline.

The court instructed that the remaining amount be paid via Demand Draft (DD) only, rejecting Yadav’s lawyer’s proposal to use a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR). Compliance with the prescribed payment method is mandatory. Justice Sharma clarified that failure to deposit the remaining sum by 3 PM will result in the continuation of the case hearing the next day.

During the proceedings, the court appeared firm on procedural adherence, stressing that all payments must follow the required format. Yadav’s interim bail is thus conditional, linking judicial leniency directly to the completion of financial obligations.

Rajpal Yadav had faced imprisonment after being found guilty of issuing multiple cheques that failed due to insufficient funds, prompting the complainant company to file a legal case. The actor’s request for temporary relief coincides with personal commitments, including attendance at a family wedding, which the court acknowledged while setting conditions for interim bail.

The outcome of today’s scheduled deposit will determine Yadav’s immediate legal status. Full compliance with the court’s directives could secure his temporary release, while any delay or non-compliance will prompt further hearings and possible revocation of interim relief.ani
