According to industry sources cited by Pinkvilla, the decision follows the massive success of Dhurandhar, which has collected an estimated ₹877 crore at the worldwide box office. The film has firmly established Ranveer Singh in the gangster-action space, leading the actor to reassess his upcoming choices. Sources say he is keen to avoid being typecast in similar roles and does not want to take on back-to-back films in the same genre.
A source familiar with the matter said Ranveer is now prioritising collaborations with filmmakers known for distinct cinematic styles, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee. “After Dhurandhar, Ranveer wants to consciously diversify his filmography and explore different worlds,” the source said, adding that this shift played a key role in his decision to step away from Don 3.
The report also states that Ranveer has requested producer Jay Mehta to begin work on Pralay before any other commitments. The actor is said to be personally coordinating schedules to ensure the project moves ahead without delay. Pralay is described as a zombie-based film with a strong emotional core, focusing on how far a man is willing to go to protect his family under extreme circumstances. The film was earlier expected to go on floors after Don 3.
Meanwhile, the Don 3 team is keen to stick to its original timeline and begin shooting by the end of January 2026. With Ranveer’s reported exit, the makers have reportedly initiated the process of finalising a new lead actor.
The project has already seen multiple cast changes. Actress Kiara Advani exited the film earlier due to her pregnancy and has been replaced by Kriti Sanon. Actor Vikrant Massey, who was reportedly signed to play the antagonist, also stepped away from the project after expressing dissatisfaction with the script.
Neither Ranveer Singh nor the Don 3 makers have issued an official statement on the latest developments.
