The iconic TV show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is all set to return with a new season. Preparations for the show have already begun, and a while ago, producer Ekta Kapoor even met with Smriti Irani regarding the revival. However, actor Ronit Roy, who played the lead role of Mihir Virani, has turned down the offer to return. Ronit himself revealed this in a recent interview.
Speaking to ETimes, Ronit Roy said,
“I’m happy that they’re planning to bring Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi back. But unfortunately, it didn’t work out for me. It’s a show that’s very close to my heart. I dedicated eight years of my life to it. I wish the makers, cast, and crew all the best. I’m excited to watch it.”
Ronit Roy further explained why he declined the offer to return to the show. He said,
“I’m against doing long-running shows or staying on television for extended periods. As I’ve said before, there’s still a lot that needs to change on TV. It’s been 25 years since I started, and the world has changed significantly. Certain things need to be fixed in the television space. Only after that will I consider coming back. Until then, I’m happy where I am.”
Smriti Irani signs the contract for the show
On June 8, Smriti Irani and Amar Upadhyay met with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 producer Ekta Kapoor. According to a report by Zoom, both Smriti and Amar have signed the show and have already begun shooting.
For context, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi first premiered in the year 2000. The show was immensely popular and ran for 8 years with numerous twists and turns, consistently staying at the top. It was this show that gave Smriti Irani nationwide fame. However, she later quit acting and transitioned into politics.
