In a conversation with Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, Shobhaa revealed that the Mumbai hotspot makes between ₹2 and ₹3 crore every night, with guests spending lakhs on food and alcohol.
“The kind of money being made in Mumbai is unbelievable,” she said. “On a slow night, they earn around ₹2 crore, and on weekends, the figure reaches ₹3 crore. I went there myself because I couldn’t believe these numbers.”
When asked which restaurant she meant, Shobhaa confirmed, “It’s Bastian — the new one. It’s incredible, spread over 21,000 square feet with a 360° view of the city. You feel like you’ve entered another world.”
She added that the restaurant serves about 1,400 guests a night, with two large dining sections accommodating 700 people each. “There’s even a waiting list in Dadar. Guests arrive in Lamborghinis and Aston Martins—it’s surreal,” she noted.
Sharing her own experience, Shobhaa said she was surprised not to recognize anyone among the diners.
“I was shocked — 700 people, and not one familiar face. They were all young, ordering the best tequila bottles. Every table was spending millions.”
Shobhaa De, who began her career as a model at 17 and became a journalist by 20, praised the restaurant’s appeal among Mumbai’s elite youth.
Actress Shilpa Shetty became a co-owner of Bastian in 2019 after partnering with the brand’s founder Ranjit Bindra. She now holds a 50% stake in the business and runs several high-end restaurants across India, calling herself one of the country’s biggest restaurateurs.
