Sunjay Kapur’s Mother Alleges Asset Concealment by Daughter-in-Law in Ongoing Property Dispute

The family dispute over businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate intensified on Monday as his mother, Rani Kapur, accused his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of concealing assets and attempting to take control of his properties following his death. The allegations were made during a hearing in the Delhi High Court, where the Kapur family is contesting ownership of assets estimated at around ₹30,000 crore.

Senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, representing Rani Kapur, told the court that despite Sunjay’s annual income of nearly ₹60 crore, his bank account held less than ₹2 crore at the time of his death. He added that Sunjay possessed crypto assets worth approximately ₹1.69 crore, but their handling remains unclear. The counsel argued that Priya Kapur had withheld complete financial details and suggested that a portion of the funds may have been transferred abroad.

Gaggar further submitted that Sunjay’s farmhouse in Delhi’s Rajokri area contains more than 50 valuable paintings and was originally built by Rani’s late husband. He questioned the absence of insurance policies, rental income or mutual fund holdings in Sunjay’s records, calling the discrepancy between his earnings and available assets “highly suspicious.”

Rani has asked the court to order full disclosure of both Sunjay and Priya Kapur’s assets for the past two years and to maintain status quo on all properties until verification is complete. The counsel also highlighted that the 80-year-old mother was not named in her son’s will, despite the fact that her husband had previously left his assets to her.

The dispute has also drawn in Sunjay’s children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor, with Rani supporting their claim that the will presented by Priya is not genuine. She questioned the legitimacy of witnesses cited in the document and alleged that Priya has been attempting to assume control of Sona Comstar, the family’s flagship company.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for December 3.
