Sunny Deol Responds to ‘Dhurandhar’ Dialogue, Refuses Any Royalty Claims

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol has clarified that he has no intention of claiming royalties over a popular dialogue from the spy-thriller film Dhurandhar, which indirectly references his hit films Ghayal and Ghatak. The dialogue—delivered by Ranveer Singh as his character Hamza Ali Majari—says, “I am injured, therefore I am lethal”, evoking memories of Deol’s iconic roles.

In a recent interview with Asian News International (ANI), Sunny Deol stated that he views the reference as a tribute rather than a matter of intellectual property or rights. Smiling, he said, “I have no intention of claiming royalties. The director, Aditya Dhar, is a big fan of mine, and including this line was meant as an homage. Using the title like this is very sweet.”

Dhurandhar, which released on 5 December 2025, was a major box-office success, grossing over ₹1,300 crore globally. The film follows Ranveer Singh’s character on an undercover mission and received widespread acclaim for its engaging storytelling and high-octane sequences.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol is celebrating the success of his latest release, Border 2, the sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border. The film, starring Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty alongside Deol, has earned over ₹460 crore worldwide so far. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishna Kumar, J.P. Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, the film continues to resonate with audiences.

Film industry experts note that referencing classic dialogues or titles is often considered a mark of respect in cinema. Sunny Deol’s gracious response has helped diffuse any controversy, framing the dialogue nod as a gesture of admiration rather than a legal or financial issue.
