Sushant Singh Rajput's Family to Challenge CBI Closure Report, Calls It 'Eyewash'
Digital Desk
The legal case surrounding the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput is set to continue after his family announced plans to challenge a CBI closure report that gave a clean chit to Rhea Chakraborty.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has concluded its investigation, stating it found no evidence to suggest that actor Rhea Chakraborty or her associates illegally confined, threatened, or abetted Sushant Singh Rajput's suicide. The agency also found no proof of financial misconduct or theft.
Despite these findings, Sushant's family has strongly rejected the report. Their lawyer, Advocate Varun Singh, called it an "eyewash" and an "incomplete document," vowing to file a protest petition in court.
CBI's Key Findings
The CBI's closure report, filed in March this year, outlines several key findings from the investigation:
No Contact Before Death: The report states that Rhea Chakraborty and her brother, Showik, left Sushant's Bandra flat on June 8, 2020, and had no further contact with him until he was found deceased on June 14. The only communication was a WhatsApp message between Sushant and Showik on June 10.
Sister Present: During this period, Sushant's sister, Meetu Singh, stayed with him in his flat from June 8 to June 12.
No Illegal Confinement: The CBI found "no evidence has come on record suggesting that Sushant was illegally confined or restrained in any manner by any of the accused".
No Financial Misconduct: On allegations of embezzlement, the agency confirmed Rhea only took her personal Apple laptop and wristwatch, which were gifts from Sushant.
Relationship Dynamic: The investigation revealed that Sushant and Rhea were in a live-in relationship and that he considered her "part of the family," with expenses on her not constituting cheating.
'Hearsay' Allegations: The CBI noted that the family's allegation that Rhea threatened to make Sushant's medical records public was "in the realm of hearsay," with no supporting digital evidence.
Family's Stance and Next Steps
Sushant's family and their legal team have sharply criticized the CBI's investigation. Advocate Varun Singh argued that the closure report is "flimsy" and lacks supporting documentation, such as chats, technical records, witness statements, and medical records.
"Simply saying Sushant Singh’s account has not been used to take out funds is not enough. The CBI should have provided the bank statement to back its claim. It’s a flimsy report, which won’t stand in the court of law," Singh stated.
The family has decided to file a protest petition against the closure report, challenging it in court. The next hearing in the matter is scheduled for December 20 in a Patna court.
