Vijay’s Final Film ‘Jan Nayagan’ Release Postponed, New Date to Be Announced Soon

The release of Jan Nayagan, actor Vijay’s much-anticipated and final film, has been postponed, production house KVN Productions confirmed on Wednesday. The film was scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, but delays in certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) forced the makers to defer the premiere.

In an official statement, KVN Productions said the decision was taken due to circumstances beyond their control. “We have to share this information with a heavy heart. Jan Nayagan, which was scheduled for release on January 9, has been postponed,” the statement read, adding that a revised release date will be announced shortly. The producers also appealed to audiences to remain patient and thanked fans for their continued support.

According to sources, the delay stems from the CBFC being unable to issue the film’s certificate within the stipulated timeline. With the release date approaching and the certification process unresolved, the producers moved the Madras High Court seeking urgent relief to retain the scheduled release. However, the court reserved its judgment, leaving the film’s clearance uncertain and prompting the postponement.

The development has drawn significant attention as Jan Nayagan is widely regarded as Vijay’s final appearance on the big screen. The actor, who enjoys a massive fan following across South India and overseas, has announced his retirement from cinema after a career spanning more than three decades. Vijay made the announcement recently during the film’s audio launch event in Malaysia, stating his intention to focus fully on public life.

Vijay is the founder and president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a political party he launched on February 2, 2024. The party has announced plans to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for March–April. His transition from cinema to politics has heightened public interest in Jan Nayagan, adding to expectations surrounding the film’s release.

Vijay began his acting journey as a child artist at the age of 10 and debuted as a lead actor with Naalaiya Theerpu in 1992. Over the years, he has remained one of Tamil cinema’s most bankable stars. While some of his recent films—Beast (2022), Varisu (2023), and The Greatest of All Time (2024)—received mixed critical responses, they performed strongly at the box office.

With the release now postponed, industry observers are awaiting clarity on the certification process and the new premiere date, which is expected to be announced by KVN Productions in the coming days.
