According to sources, the delay stems from the CBFC being unable to issue the film’s certificate within the stipulated timeline. With the release date approaching and the certification process unresolved, the producers moved the Madras High Court seeking urgent relief to retain the scheduled release. However, the court reserved its judgment, leaving the film’s clearance uncertain and prompting the postponement.
The development has drawn significant attention as Jan Nayagan is widely regarded as Vijay’s final appearance on the big screen. The actor, who enjoys a massive fan following across South India and overseas, has announced his retirement from cinema after a career spanning more than three decades. Vijay made the announcement recently during the film’s audio launch event in Malaysia, stating his intention to focus fully on public life.
Vijay is the founder and president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), a political party he launched on February 2, 2024. The party has announced plans to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for March–April.
