Yami Gautam Criticizes 'Paid Hype' in Bollywood Ahead of 'Dhurandhar' Release, Hrithik Roshan Voices Support

Actress Yami Gautam has openly condemned the practice of paying for promotional hype in Bollywood, calling it a form of extortion and a threat to the integrity of Indian cinema. Her statement comes just days before the release of the film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, which has already been surrounded by controversies and online trolling.

In a detailed post on X, Yami criticized the trend of incentivizing favorable reviews and negative publicity against films or actors who do not comply. “This so-called practice of paying money in the name of film marketing, so that the film gets good publicity, otherwise 'they' will keep writing negative things even before the film's release, all this seems like nothing but a form of extortion,” she wrote. She warned that this “pandemic” could severely affect the future of the film industry if left unchecked.

Yami urged producers, directors, and actors to unite against the culture of paid hype, stressing that the joy of filmmaking should not be compromised and that audiences should be allowed to form opinions freely. She further highlighted the importance of protecting the creative environment and respecting the efforts of honest filmmakers.

Her post has drawn widespread attention on social media, with prominent actors, including Hrithik Roshan, expressing support. Roshan emphasized the significance of journalistic freedom and authentic feedback, writing that the loss of genuine opinions in reviews deprives both the industry and audiences of growth opportunities.

The actress’s comments highlight ongoing concerns about media manipulation and promotional practices in Bollywood. Dhurandhar is set to release on December 5, and Yami’s remarks have intensified discussions on the ethics of film publicity, transparency in reviews, and the pressures faced by actors and filmmakers in the current industry landscape.

The industry and fans continue to engage in discussions over Yami’s post, reflecting growing awareness about paid promotion practices in Indian cinema.
