Zubeen Garg death case, Assam Police have arrested, Siddharth Sarma Zubeen's manager, and Shyamkanu Mahanta, who organised the North East India Festival in Singapore, for questioning.
On September 19, 52-year-old Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg, following a scuba diving accident in Singapore, has prompted a wide-ranging investigation and expressions of grief across Assam. His body was returned to Guwahati via Delhi on a commercial flight on Sunday morning.
Multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed against Siddhartha Sharma, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Shyamkanu Mahanta, and others, alleging their involvement in the circumstances leading to the singer's death.
The Assam government has formally requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore to facilitate full cooperation from Singaporean authorities. This would grant access to case details and assistance in extraditing the accused to ensure justice is served.
Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, had previously requested their statements be taken before October 6. Shyamkanu Mahanta was arrested upon arrival at the Delhi airport from Singapore. Both Shyamkanu and Siddharth Sarma were taken to Guwahati for further investigation.
Gaurav Gogoi requested PM for urgent investigation
Assam Congress President Gaurav Gogoi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a transparent and urgent investigation into Zubeen Garg's death. Gogoi's letter requests that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry be placed under the direct monitoring and review of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO. He highlighted Zubeen's unifying influence across Assam and the Northeast, stating that his sudden passing has raised "disturbing questions."
