Bharat Gaurav Train Embarks on Historic 6-Day Journey to Celebrate 351st Coronation Anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) has launched the much-awaited Bharat Gaurav Train tour to commemorate the 351st coronation anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The journey will begin from Mumbai’s famous Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on 9th June 2025, and has already seen overwhelming response with 100% bookings.

Here is a detailed look at the historic train journey and what passengers can expect:

  • Passenger Capacity & Classes:
    The train will carry a total of 710 passengers across three classes:

    • Economy (Sleeper): 480 passengers

    • Comfort (3AC): 190 passengers

    • Superior (2AC): 40 passengers

  • Purpose of the Tour:
    The Bharat Gaurav Train tour is specially conceptualized to honor the glorious legacy and valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on his 351st coronation anniversary. It is a joint initiative by the Government of Maharashtra and Indian Railways.

  • Duration & Itinerary:
    The tour spans 6 days and 5 nights, covering key historical and cultural sites linked to the life of Shivaji Maharaj.

  • Day 1 – Mumbai to Raigad & Pune:

    • Departure from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai.

    • Arrival at Mangaon railway station on the Konkan Railway line, closest to Raigad Fort.

    • Visit Raigad Fort, the coronation site and erstwhile capital of Shivaji Maharaj.

    • After sightseeing, board the train to Pune.

    • Dinner and overnight stay at hotels in Pune.

  • Day 2 – Pune Historical Sites:

    • Visit Lal Mahal, rebuilt in 1984 on the original site, housing oil paintings depicting Shivaji Maharaj’s life events.

    • Visit Kasba Ganpati Temple, consecrated by Jijabai, Shivaji’s mother, marking Pune as the “City of Lord Ganesha.”

    • Explore Shivsrushti, India’s largest historical theme park showcasing Shivaji Maharaj’s life in immersive 3D and interactive sessions.

    • Overnight stay in Pune.

  • Day 3 – Shivneri Fort & Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga:

    • Visit Shivneri Fort, birthplace of Shivaji Maharaj and symbol of Maratha pride and defiance against Mughal rule.

    • After lunch, visit the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlinga shrines.

    • Return to Pune for overnight stay.

  • Day 4 – Satara and Pratapgad Fort:

    • Travel by train to Satara.

    • Visit Pratapgad Fort, known for the 1659 battle where Shivaji Maharaj defeated Afzal Khan, a defining moment in Maratha history.

    • Post sightseeing, have lunch and board the train towards Kolhapur.

  • Day 5 – Kolhapur: Mahalaxmi Temple & Panhala Fort:

    • Visit the famous Mahalaxmi Temple (also called Ambabai), a revered spiritual site.

    • Explore Panhala Fort, located on the Sahyadri hills, known for its serpentine design and connection to Shivaji Maharaj’s life, including his imprisonment and daring escape.

    • Panhala Fort is also famous for the heroic defense by Shivaji’s commander, Baji Prabhu Deshpande.

  • Day 6 – Return to Mumbai:

    • Departure from Kolhapur by train in the evening.

    • Arrival at Mumbai early morning, concluding the historic tour.
