Geopolitical Tensions: Iran may block key oil route
Iran’s parliament has passed a proposal to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to recent U.S. airstrikes.
This is significant globally as 20–25% of the world’s crude oil supply passes through this route.
Following the news, oil prices surged to around $80 per barrel.
Rising oil prices are likely to increase inflation and hurt economies of oil-importing countries.
Investor concerns about rising input costs and lower corporate profits have contributed to market volatility.
