Silver Prices Double in 10 Months: Experts Warn Short-Term Investors Amid Record Surge

In an unprecedented rally, silver prices have more than doubled in just 10 months, rising from Rs.86,000 per kg to around Rs.1.75 lakh per kg. This is the fastest surge in silver’s history and has delivered nearly 37% higher returns than gold, beating even the stock market and fixed deposits.

Why are silver prices rising so fast?

Experts say the main reasons include the festive season demand, industrial consumption, and a global supply shortage. India is one of the world’s largest silver consumers, and buying silver during Diwali and Dhanteras is considered auspicious.

At the same time, silver is used widely in solar panels, electric vehicles, and AI-based technologies. With global industries expanding rapidly, demand for silver has skyrocketed. However, supply remains limited since most silver is extracted as a byproduct of other metals like copper and zinc.

Should you invest in silver now?

Market experts are advising caution. Renisha Chenani (Augmont) says investors should avoid aggressive buying as prices are already at record highs, though long-term prospects remain strong. Ajay Kedia (Kedia Commodity) believes silver could outperform gold in the future but recommends waiting for price corrections. Anuj Gupta (HDFC Securities) suggests buying on dips since silver remains undervalued compared to gold.

Best ways to invest in silver

1. Physical Silver: Coins, bars, or ornaments — ensure BIS hallmark for purity.

2. Silver ETFs: Traded on stock exchanges; no concerns about theft or purity.

3. Silver Futures (MCX): For experienced traders, offers high returns but carries higher risk.

With silver outperforming gold, stock markets, and FDs, it has emerged as 2025’s most talked-about investment. However, experts suggest patience — not panic buying — as volatility may continue in the short term.
