Delhi Government Launches Social Audit for 60% Schools Under Samagra Shiksha: Boosting RTE Compliance and Student Safety

As per a recent circular from the Directorate of Education (DoE), the audit will scrutinize key aspects of school operations, including infrastructure upgrades like classrooms, sanitation facilities, drinking water, and electricity supply.

Special emphasis will be placed on student safety, particularly for girls, alongside metrics such as enrolment, attendance, retention rates, and inclusive education for children with special needs. By involving parents, teachers, and community stakeholders, the process aims to uncover grassroots challenges that routine inspections often overlook.

Only accredited institutions universities, colleges, or technical institutes with a NAAC rating of B+ or higher will conduct the audits, with priority given to Delhi's State Administrative University. "This social audit will illuminate ground-level hurdles and empower swift corrective actions, fostering a safer and more inclusive learning environment," stated a DoE official.

Launched in 2018 as a flagship centrally sponsored program, Samagra Shiksha integrates Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, and Teacher Education schemes. Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, it holistically supports education from pre-primary to Class 12, targeting holistic child development.

The move aligns with Delhi's zero-tolerance policy on negligence, signaling a robust push against lapses in student welfare. As the capital grapples with urban education pressures, this audit could set a benchmark for other states, promoting sustainable improvements in government schools Delhi-wide.

Education experts hail it as a vital tool for RTE implementation, potentially reducing dropout rates and enhancing infrastructure in underserved areas. With the audit rollout imminent, stakeholders are optimistic about tangible outcomes by mid-2026.
