Beyond Pink Ribbons: LifeCell Diagnostics Urges Inclusive Breast Cancer Awareness Across India

As India marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, LifeCell Diagnostics is calling for a more inclusive national dialogue on breast cancer, emphasizing awareness, access to preventive care, and genetic literacy, particularly in rural regions.

The focus, the company notes, must go beyond urban-centric social media campaigns to reach communities that are often underserved.

Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Indian women, with a significant proportion diagnosed at advanced stages, severely affecting survival rates. Experts also highlight the critical yet often overlooked role of hereditary factors. Around 5-10% of breast cancers are hereditary, linked to inherited gene mutations such as BRCA1 and BRCA2.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), over 200,000 new cases of breast cancer are reported annually in India. Alarmingly, nearly half of these cases are identified at advanced stages, resulting in poorer treatment outcomes. Screening and awareness levels remain much lower than in many Western countries, contributing to increased mortality.

While urban centers are gradually embracing preventive healthcare, rural India faces unique challenges. Limited access to healthcare facilities, delayed diagnoses due to low awareness, and social taboos around women’s health often lead to late detection, increasing the risk of fatalities.

In parallel with diagnostics, LifeCell emphasizes the transformative potential of regenerative medicine and stem cell research. As India’s first stem cell bank, LifeCell underscores the importance of preserving a newborn’s umbilical cord blood stem cells, which could play a vital role in future treatments, including cancer therapy and recovery support.

To mark this Breast Cancer Awareness Month, LifeCell Diagnostics will host:

  • Educational webinars and digital sessions featuring thought leaders in genetics and women’s health.

  • Awareness campaigns, social media initiatives, and screening camps led by key opinion leaders to clearly communicate risk factors.

  • Special pricing on cancer screening and BRCA testing to make genetic testing more accessible for high-risk individuals.

  • Free genetic counseling for patients identified as high risk or with a family history of multiple cancers.

LifeCell’s mission is to ensure that women across urban and rural India understand the importance of early detection, recognizing that preventive healthcare is a necessity, not a luxury.
