Digital Desk
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 12 across Uttar Pradesh until January 1, 2026, citing severe cold wave conditions and dense fog posing risks to students.
The directive applies to government, aided, and private institutions affiliated with UP Board, CBSE, ICSE, and others, prioritizing child safety amid plummeting temperatures and poor visibility.
Many districts had already extended winter breaks or revised timings, with secondary schools operating from 10 AM to 3 PM to avoid early morning chill. The India Meteorological Department issued alerts for dense to very dense fog in several areas, exacerbating travel hazards. Parents welcomed the decision, noting difficulties in commuting during peak cold hours.
Schools are expected to reopen January 2, with possible further adjustments based on weather updates. This precautionary measure reflects broader northern India trends, where cold waves disrupt routines annually.
