The Indian Army has announced the commencement of the Agniveer Common Entrance Examination (CEE) Recruitment 2026, marking a key phase in the selection of candidates for the Agniveer cadre. The recruitment drive, aimed at filling vacancies across various arms and services, is expected to attract tens of thousands of aspirants from across the country.
According to official sources, the online registration process for the Agniveer CEE 2026 will open from March 1, 2026, on the Indian Army’s recruitment portal, and will remain available until March 31, 2026. Aspirants seeking to join the Army under the Agnipath scheme must complete the application within the stipulated window. The examination date is scheduled for June 14, 2026, and the selection process will include written tests, physical fitness trials and medical examinations.
Defence officials said the recruitment exercise is aligned with the government’s broader military modernisation and youth engagement initiatives. “The Agniveer CEE provides opportunities for disciplined service and skill development while contributing to national security,” a spokesperson for the Army stated. He emphasised that all eligible candidates must satisfy educational and physical criteria outlined in the official notification.
Who can apply? Candidates between the ages of 17½ and 23 years with educational qualifications ranging from class 10 to 12 (depending on the trade applied for) are eligible to apply. The application procedure will be conducted entirely online, with aspirants required to upload supporting documents and photographs as per guidelines. The Army has also provided a helpdesk and frequently asked questions (FAQ) section to assist applicants.
The Agniveer CEE is part of the Agnipath recruitment model introduced in 2022, which aims to induct youth into the armed forces on a four-year short-term engagement. Officials argue this model broadens opportunities and strengthens linkages between military training and employment skills that participants can carry into civilian life post-service.
Ahead of the examination, the Army has released detailed instructions on the official website, including syllabus outlines and sample question papers. Candidates are advised to familiarise themselves with the examination pattern and prepare accordingly.
The recruitment drive has drawn mixed reactions from stakeholders. While proponents commend the initiative for opening doors to military service and skill acquisition, critics have called for enhanced support for those who complete their tenure and return to civilian roles.
Results of the written exam are expected by August 2026, with subsequent physical and medical assessments through the latter part of the year. The Army has reiterated that all stages of selection will adhere to standards of fairness and transparency.
