India's Job Market Wraps 2025 on High Note: 23% Hiring Surge Signals Strong 2026 Outlook

India's employment landscape closed 2025 with robust momentum, recording a 23% year-on-year increase in hiring activity, according to the latest foundit Insights Tracker report. This growth, driven by digital transformation and sectoral expansion, sets the stage for an estimated 1.28 crore new jobs in 2026.

Key sectors fuelling the boom included quick commerce, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), e-commerce, retail, and healthcare. Apna.co's India at Work 2025 report noted over 9 crore job applications—a 29% rise—with 14 lakh postings, up 15%. Small and medium businesses contributed significantly, reflecting broader economic resilience.

Women's participation stood out, with applications jumping 36% to over 3.8 crore, particularly in administrative, customer experience, and healthcare roles. Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities gained traction, narrowing the metro dominance as infrastructure improved access.

Technology roles dominated demand, with AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data engineering leading. Global Capability Centres (GCCs) sustained tech hiring amid caution in traditional IT services.

Freshers favoured positions offering structured growth and skill development, while overall sentiment shifted toward skill-based recruitment over volume.

The moderation in the second half—from early peaks of 32-41% growth to around 4%—indicated a strategic pivot to productivity-focused roles.

Analysts project continued expansion in 2026, front-loaded in the first half, across technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, and aviation. Experts advise upskilling in digital tools and adaptability to capitalise on opportunities.

As India solidifies its position as a global talent hub, the 2025 trends underscore a maturing market prioritising quality over quantity.
