Madhya Pradesh Announces Short Winter Vacation for Schools Amid Festive Season
Digital Desk
The Madhya Pradesh School Education Department has declared a brief winter break for all government and private schools from December 31, 2025, to January 4, 2026, providing students and teachers a five-day respite during the New Year period.
This official vacation covers both Christmas aftermath and early January, allowing families to celebrate without academic interruptions. Schools will reopen on January 5, with regular classes resuming across the state.
The decision aligns with annual traditions, ensuring minimal disruption while accounting for colder weather in northern districts. Christmas Day on December 25 remains a gazetted holiday, with many institutions already observing informal breaks or adjusted timings in late December.
Parents and educators welcomed the announcement, noting it offers much-needed rest after end-of-term activities and ongoing MPSOS examinations for open school students, scheduled through December 29.District authorities retain flexibility to extend closures if severe cold waves persist, particularly in areas like Gwalior and Chambal divisions experiencing denser fog.
Private and missionary schools must adhere to the directive, promoting uniform holidays statewide. This short break contrasts with longer vacations in neighboring states like Uttar Pradesh, where extended closures address harsher winters.
As temperatures dip, the department emphasized safety, advising warm clothing for any outdoor activities upon reopening. The move reflects balanced planning, prioritizing well-being without compromising the academic calendar.
