Umpire Error in Bat Gauge

Early in the CSK innings, debutant Ayush Mhatre faced an unusual ordeal when his bat failed the gauge test twice. Umpires use the triangular plastic gauge to ensure bats meet regulations and prevent any unfair advantage. Mhatre, who walked in during the third over, saw his original bat rejected. He called for a replacement, which also did not pass. Officials later realised the umpire had held the gauge upside down throughout the check. The original bat was finally cleared, allowing Mhatre to continue.

Fans Whistle During Toss

On the second ball of the 10th over, with Mhatre on 59, a top-edged slog sweep flew to short fine leg where Vyshak dropped the catch despite a full-length dive. Two overs later, on 67, another miscued big shot sailed towards deep cover. Shashank Singh rushed in but failed to hold on, gifting the young batter another life.

Iyer’s Half-Century Powers Chase

Shreyas Iyer played the innings of the night, remaining unbeaten with a measured half-century that kept the required rate under control. His calm presence helped PBKS maintain momentum even after the middle-order wobble triggered by the run-out. The captain’s shot selection and running between the wickets proved decisive as the visitors crossed the line with nine balls to spare.

Punjab Dominate Chepauk Again

With this win, PBKS extended their remarkable record at Chepauk, registering a fourth successive victory over CSK at their home ground since 2023. The five-time champions, on the other hand, slumped to their second defeat in two matches this season and will need to regroup quickly.

Record-Breaking T20 Chase

The result rewrote the T20 record books. Punjab Kings registered their ninth successful chase of 200 or more runs, surpassing the Indian national team’s tally of eight such chases. Australia have seven while Mumbai Indians have six. This was also PBKS’s second-highest successful chase in their history after their record 262-run pursuit against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. CSK, meanwhile, became the first IPL side to post 36 scores of 200 or more, one ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
