Rajasthan Expands RTE Admissions: Free Seats Now in Four Classes, Applications Open February 20
Digital Desk
The Rajasthan government has announced a major expansion of admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) in private schools, allowing free admission in four classes for the first time—from Nursery to First Class. Applications will open on February 20, 2026, with the lottery draw scheduled for March 6, according to the Directorate of Elementary Education.
Earlier, RTE admissions were limited to Nursery and First Class only. Under the new guidelines, parents can apply for:
-
Nursery (3+ years) – children aged 3 to 4 years
-
LKG (4+ years) – children aged 4 to 5 years
-
UKG (5+ years) – children aged 5 to 6 years
-
First Class (6+ years) – children aged 6 to 7 years
Assistant Director of Elementary Education and RTE Admission In-charge Chandra Kiran Panwar stated that this expansion ensures broader access for students and addresses previously vacant seats in private schools.
Seat Allocation Formula
The number of free admission seats in each class will be calculated based on the average intake over the past three years. Twenty-five percent of these seats will be reserved for RTE students. For example, if LKG has 10 seats and 8 children were promoted from Nursery, the remaining 2 seats will be allocated under RTE. The same formula applies to UKG and First Class.
This revision also addresses vacant seats left by students who leave after admission, thereby increasing the total number of students eligible for free admission under RTE.
Admission Schedule
-
School profile update: Till February 17
-
Online application by parents: February 20 to March 4
-
Lottery draw: March 6
-
Change of school selection order: March 6 to March 11
-
First-phase allocation: Till March 13
-
Document verification: March 13 to March 21
-
Grievance redressal (first phase): March 13 to March 25
-
Second-phase lottery: March 27
-
Document verification and grievance redressal (second phase): March 27 to April 10
-
Allotment of remaining seats: April 13, followed by verification and third-phase grievance resolution
The new guidelines aim to simplify the process, ensure maximum utilization of vacant seats, and expand educational opportunities for underprivileged children in Rajasthan.
